Video: “What If Starbucks Marketed Like A Church?”

What if Starbucks Marketed Like a Church

I came across an interesting video today on YouTube added by BeyondRelevance.  They call it a video parable and it imagines what it might be like if a coffee shop run itself and marketed itself like a church.  It was a pretty amusing video, though certainly a stereotypical idea of what the video makers think most churches are like.

So, what do you think?  Do you think this really represents what most churches are like?  The folks who made this video kind of poke fun at what seems to me to be their concept of the marketing of a traditional church (albeit poorly carried out marketing), but are the more “edgy’ churches any better?  I wonder if Starbucks would put up billboards that read “Don’t drink Starbucks coffee!  Signed Java Joes”, have a “30 Day Sex and Java Challenge” or put up yard signs for “MyLameCoffeeLife.com”.

Another question would be whether church marketing and business marketing are supposed to be similar.  Is it even fair to compare Starbucks marketing and church marketing?

What do you think?
